A comprehensive Health Care Program is provided to all residents at Brother James Court. Each resident has his own personal care physician, who participates as an intricate member of the interdisciplinary care team. The facility also has a Medical Director on staff whose role includes consult services, review and development of facility medical policies and procedures, and also is hands-on with many of our residents as their personal care physician. We are fortunate our Medical Director visits the facility routinely, which enables our residents to see their physician without leaving the facility.
Residents have a customized plan of care designed to address the physical and mental needs of each individual resident. Nursing staff complete physical assessments routinely on each resident to help ensure ongoing good health. Nursing staff keep the family or guardian informed of any significant changes in our resident’s condition. Families and guardians are encouraged to attend each resident’s annual plan of care review. It is our desire that families are involved in the decision making and planning of their loved one’s care plan and we encourage and welcome their ongoing support.
BJC provides up to date facilities to accommodate the changing needs of our Residents. A fully equipped medical examination room and a “dental office” is available and utilized by our physicians. We are fortunate to have professionals committed to providing health services for our men here in the facility. Currently, those making scheduled routine visits at BJC include: a Psychiatrist, a Podiatrist, an Audiologist, an Ophthalmologist, a Physical Therapist, an Occupational Therapist and a Dentist. A full time rehabilitation aide provides the needed exercises and activities required to maintain or enhance our resident’s physical abilities and functional levels.
Brother James Court contracts with Memorial Medical Center to provide in-house Hospice services for our residents who may require “end-of-life” special needs. A resident room is set up across from the nurse’s station and is furnished to provide “comfort care” for the resident and for his family/guardian during this special time.
Our caring nurses are highly skilled and educated to meet the special needs of our residents. Their dedication and concern for each individual is reflected in their delivery of good quality of care. Our nursing staff provides services 24 hours a day.
